Yas Calasse

Biography

Yasmine is a South African Contemporary and Hip-Hop dancer. She trained with the Dance Factory and Dance Web in South Africa and furthered her studies in NYC at Gibney, Peridance Center and Broadway Dance Center. She is highly influenced and inspired by her background in the Street dance scene and nurtures this connection in her work by remaining politically and socially conscious.  Notably, she has choreographed for an award winning music video “Rainmaker” and exhibited her work “Confinement” in Cape Town (Western Province building for ICA 2020). Yasmine has performed works by renowned choreographers- Willie Stark, Ching-Ching Wong, Ihsan Rustem, Jennifer Archibald, Elisabetta Minutoli and Jasmin Halper, to name a few. Yasmine is a producer at AFIA Festival and the founder of “ReIgnite” sessions. She is currently working on her piece “it’s not what you think, allow me to clarify” and performing in “Chapt(hers)” and “Red Rivers” by Willie Stark.
